Hero Image for David LaChapelle and The Art of the Spectacle

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Join us for a discussion on the 3rd floor of our David LaChapelle exhibition, make BELIEVE, to unpack the relationship between the work and theatrical spectacle, its conceptual and logistical process, and collaborative nature.

Led by set and production designer Kristen Vallow, this talk will explore how David LaChapelle’s work takes on a vibrant life through intricate sets and meticulously conceived ideas. Vallow has collaborated with David LaChapelle for most of his professional life, and her editorial clients have included New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, British GQ, Esquire, Flaunt, Rolling Stone, Interview, AnOther Magazine, and Visionaire. She has worked with MAC, Estee Lauder, Neiman Marcus, Beyonce, Absolut, Skky Vodka, Target, Apple, and L’Oreal Paris, among many others.

She will be in conversation with Alexander Dodge, an internationally acclaimed set designer who has received Tony Award and Drama Desk nominations for his work. His designs have appeared at Geffen Playhouse, The Guthrie Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, McCarter Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Yale Repertory Theatre among many others.
