Does Equal Mean Equal for Women?
About the Event
Kicking off Women’s History Month, a discussion and film screening in celebration of the Equal Rights Amendment in spite of the threat currently facing its ratification.
The panel discussion will feature photographer Jill Greenberg, Kamala Lopez (Founder and President Equal Means Equal), Natalie White (Vice President Equal Means Equal), Joel Marshall (Producer Equal Means Equal documentary film), Wendy Murphy (Co-Director of the Women’s and Children’s Advocacy Project under the Center for Law and Social Responsibility at New England Law-Boston & EME Legal Counsel) & Dr. Brigitte Alexander (Director of Forensic Clinical Services, Kings County Hospital).
In a January editorial on the Equal Rights Amendment’s recent ratification, the New York Times wrote that the amendment had, “become the Schrödinger’s Cat of amendments — simultaneously part of and not part of the Constitution. Its ultimate fate is bound up in profound legal and political questions that force us to consider how we decide what our national charter includes and what it doesn’t.”
